GWINNETT COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A woman arrested on March 28 on forgery charges and running an illegal law practice is now facing new charges after her bond hearing on Wednesday.

Melva Washington, 60, along with her 26 year-old daughter Elizabeth Cannon-Washington, are facing new charges of influencing a witness and terroristic threats after a witness at Melva's bond hearing informed a detective he was threatened by the pair if he provided testimony against her.

Police began investigating Melva Washington in February and discovered she was charging members of the Hispanic community in need of legal counsel large sums of money with the promise they would obtain DACA status, even if they didn't meet the minimum requirements.

The case came to light after one of the clients was denied citizenship and noticed Melva had forged and submitted false information on his behalf. After an investigation, she was charged with two counts of forgery, four counts of false statements and writings and unauthorized practice of a law profession.

During a bond hearing on Wednesday, a witness informed the detective that he was approached by Elizabeth and threatened if he provided testimony against Melva. It was also learned that Melva instructed Elizabeth to demand $10,000 from him to post her bond.

Melva Washington is currently in the Gwinnett County Jail while Elizabeth's whereabouts are unknown.

If you have any information on her whereabouts, you're asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 404-577-8477.
