JONESBORO, GA (CBS46) -

An arrest has been made after 24 horses were killed in early April in a stable fire in Clayton County.

The fire occurred on April 4 in the 1800 block of Noah's Ark Road in Jonesboro.

Jonathan Espinoza-Vasquez was arrested on April 12 and charged with first-degree arson and aggravated cruelty. A tipster told the Clayton County Police Department that Espinoza-Vasquez set fire to the stable in alleged retaliation toward the owner of the property.

Individuals who rent a home on the property called the fire department to report the fire. The owners say their family owned the horses, according to a spokesperson with the Clayton County Fire Department.

One horse escaped from the fire.

Espinoza-Vasquez is currently being held in the Henry County Jail awaiting trial.
