Questions swirl after Gwinnett deputy fired

Posted: Updated:

A sheriff's deputy in Gwinnett County was fired, accused of meeting multiple women for sex while on duty.

The married father of three didn't come to the door at his listed address in Gwinnett County, but neighbors told CBS46 they were used to seeing the former deputy and his patrol car in the driveway.

"It's all starting to come together and look really bad for you," an investigator is heard telling the deputy in an internal interview obtained by CBS46.

Deputy Chase Peden was sacked after failing a lie detector test, and a lengthy internal investigation. The probe was launched after his bosses got an anonymous letter alleging his behavior.

Investigators said his work cell phone records showed constant calls to multiple women who were not his wife. And intel showed he was in places he shouldn't have been.

"I started with phone records and was shocked how many times you called her," the investigator told Peden in his interview over the issue. "Not only this woman, here are two other women you're talking to on their personal cell phones."

"Then I start seeing stops that seem unusual," the investigator added. "Have you ever taken your patrol car to someone's house for personal business?"

As we reviewed hours of the interview, it appears one of the women on Deputy Peden's call list is a fellow employee on the force.

We visited the sheriff's office to speak to the sheriff, but he declined to comment. As for the former deputy, he maintains the women are all just friends.

"So I failed a polygraph. That doesn't mean I'm guilty," Peden says on tape in the interview. "This is an anonymous letter, saying sh--t about me, unfactual."

Sources inside the sheriff's office told us the deputy's employment record was clean. However, he had been reassigned a lot.

We also learned it appears pictures may have been sent to investigators that bolstered their case.

The former deputy denies all of this and he has not been charged with any crime.
