Newnan residents wary as White Nationalist rally makes way to town

Posted: Updated:

CBS46 is keeping you updated on the big neo-Nazi rally being held in Newnan on Saturday.

Security, as you can imagine, is being stepped up ahead of the rally, and people who live in the community are pushing back against the group.

For the better part of a week, Glenda Parks has been carving a trail, walking laps around Greeneville Street Park, stepping out on her faith ahead of Saturday’s planned White Nationalist rally.

“I don’t like what they’re doing,” she said. “They gotta be ready for the consequences, that’s all I gotta say. I’m praying they don’t start a war in Newnan.”

Historic Downtown Newnan, it’s been Olivia Waters’ home for two decades.

“I think the people there to counter-protest are running a risk,” she said.

Her fear is the planned demonstration could turn into another Charlottesville.

“I just would hope both sides are respectful,” she said. “I think plenty of people understand their right to speak.”

Parks can’t just sit on the sidelines. She won’t let her message slow down one bit.

“Newnan has changed,” she said. “We’ve got all races now. All race is going to have to come together. I’m praying for everyone.”

The rally begins at 3 p.m.
