Suspect who shot an officer taken into custody

Posted: Updated:

The man behind an eight-hour stand off with S.W.A.T. is now in police custody.

Perry Baggett was arrested Saturday morning just before seven.

On  Friday evening an officer responding to a domestic call where a female victim was being beaten by Baggett, was shot in the stomach.

After firing several rounds the suspect barricaded himself in the home located near Jeanette Place and Vanessa Drive.

Authorities were able to safely remove the woman from the scene. The injured officer was transported to Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

For eight hours Houston County, Warner Robins and Peach S.W.A.T. teams attempted to gain entry into the home. Their tactics included a robot equipped with cameras to survey the premises and several attempts at negotiation.

In the eighth hour at  3:13 a.m. authorities blew the door of the residence open and fired tear gas into the home and arrested the suspect.

He was taken to Navicent Health for treatment for undisclosed injuries.
