The Midtown Alliance is making pedestrian safety a top priority.

The organization's latest effort is focusing on 5th Street NE between Williams to Myrtle.

"It's a little dangerous because they be trying to over power the road," says Daniel Hinton of motorists.

Hinton rides his bike a lot and he says in many cases his interaction with drivers isn't pleasant.

"So they be blowing their horn and stuff trying to get us out the way, instead of riding behind us. I feel like bike lanes would be more better so I won't be behind a car or in front of a car that's trying to get somewhere," he says.

Dan Hourigan, Midtown Alliance Director of Transportation, says the 5th Street project is a partnership with the city of Atlanta, and will cost about $2.5 million.

"We're looking to present some different solutions in bicycling infrastructure, adding new sidewalks where we have sidewalks with issues, broken sidewalks and things like new lights for safety," says Hourigan.
