An event inside the Party Room night club ended in a homicide early Tuesday morning on Memorial Drive.

The victim was 57-year-old Rogelio Hackett who co-owned the club. His friends called him Roger.

"Roger was a good person, that's why I just. He had a wife, kids. He was just a good person, a good person," says Allen Lindsey.

Police say the shooting happened between four and five in the morning.

Hackett was closing down the Party Room when someone shot him and left him in the parking lot.

"Roger wasn't just a club owner, He was somebody that really cared about the community," says Lindsey. "Everybody like him, that's why I just can't even fathom that what was he doing up here late at night and them somebody ... I think it was a setup."

This isn't the first time there's been a deadly shooting in this entertainment complex.

Lindsey says he stopped having events here because of the shootings.

CBS46 talked with DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond about what's being done about crime in the area, and if plans to revitalize the Memorial Drive Corridor are at a standstill.

"I think events such as this is really what's driving the effort to revitalize and restore Memorial Drive and throughout South DeKalb County," says Thurman. "One thing we have to do, is we have to reduce the violence. We brought in Director Chief Lumpkin. We are hiring 155 additional police officers. We are providing additional employment opportunities for our youth in the summer."

The county is also hoping surveillance cameras will help with clues.

"This is not the first time and honestly, I don't think it's going to be the last. I just don't unless they secure the place a little bit more than how they've been doing it," says Lindsey.
