Richtina Mitchom takes care of the house bills for her 93-year-old grandmother.

She couldn't believe when she started getting water bills from the city of Atlanta for nearly $7,500.

"That is not a normal bill. My grandmother is 93-years-old. She could not be getting a bill that high," says Mitchom. "A bill that high could run water at the Ritz Carlton for a week."

She had minor plumbing repairs made in the house but the bills kept climbing.

CBS46 contacted Atlanta Watershed asking how they can justify a bill this high for a 93-year-old woman.

To try and figure that out, three people from the department responded to the call for help.

"The watershed folks they came out and they did an inspection. They has one of the supervisor folks come out. They did a very thorough investigation of what's going on."

The family was relieved to finally get some attention.

The meter was inspected, but no exact problem was identified. However, Watershed has agreed to a set lower bill payment while more tests are done.

"We still haven't found a leak yet but we are off to a good start. We have a plan in place. At least the process has started," says Mitchom.

The company Streamlabs also donated one of their high tech water flow devices to the family, which will help them monitor their water flow.
