Massive grow house bust in Avondale Estates

FULTON COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Agents got a tip and then they began conducting surveillance. Through that surveillance they were able to get a search warrant. 

That’s where they found 400 marijuana plants were being grown. Each plant has a street value of about 1 thousand dollars.

"This was one of their marijuana grow rooms were discovered."

Inside GBI agents found 400 marijuana plants. Special Agent in Charge Joe Chestnut walked me through the Avondale Estates warehouse, after they busted the place. 

"Yet a lot of marijuana plants growing in those mediums over there small."

He says the grow house was fully automated, with grow lights and watering systems on timers. From the front door, Chestnut couldn’t smell anything. 

"Air was filtered through here so you couldn’t smell the green marijuana."

For five hours, a team of 15 agents pulled plants and laid them out on tarp to dry out. Then it was back inside for more.

"This is what we termed the drying room."

The marijuana in here, was ready to be packaged. Agents hauled it to a truck outside. Chestnut says its likely the grow house was in operation for years. Agents destroyed each room to make sure nothing can be used again. 

The suspect is in jail and will face charges in Dekalb County and Fulton County because when he was arrested in Fulton. Agents found more marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs.
