Man killed following shooting involving off-duty deputy at Atlanta restaurant

ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A man is hospitalized after he was shot by an off-duty Fulton County Sheriff's Office deputy at a restaurant in southwest Atlanta early Friday morning.

The shooting happened at the Ivory Restaurant on the 500 block of Whitehall Street.

According to authorities, 46-year-old Norris Duffy engaged in an altercation with an unknown person inside the restaurant. Duffy was Tased, handcuffed and escorted out of the restaurant.

When he was released, he brandished a weapon from his car and an FCSO deputy fired multiple times, striking him.

The deputy, who was working security at the restaurant, was not injured.

The man was taken to Grady Hospital in Atlanta where he later died.

The GBI has been called in to investigate.
