Many people in Atlanta are looking for affordable and safe housing, and a new type of living is aimed at providing just that in the city.

CBS46 looked into shared living and how it aims to help those trying to combat rising housing costs.

One of those options is PadSplit, a company offering six homes with a total of 38 rooms around Atlanta.

"This is a great option if you're in your early 20's or looking for something as you're trying to look for a new place because it is so close to MARTA. It is so affordable and there's flexibility with your lease," says Draven Link.

Link works at Chick-fil-a and is a server, Her new home is one of five bedrooms also occupied by her space mates.

"I work full-time and I'm in school. I was looking for a one bedroom or shared bedroom and the prices were like from $1,000 to 9,000 for studio apartments. It was extremely discouraging."

PadSplits consist of taking a less affordable house and creating a shared living experience that's more affordable for those in the work force.

Atticus LeBlanc works for PadSplit and says in Georgia there's only a small percentage of housing for people earning under the $20,000 mark.

"These folks need housing and they need housing closer to where they're working," says LeBlanc.

With rising housing costs around Atlanta, community living provides a room for those with full-time employment, pass a background check and typically use public transportation.

Each home is within a half mile or so from a bus stop.

"For most people in Atlanta, transportation costs are extremely high when we're talking about automobiles so it's important for us to be close to public transit stops."

LeBlanc also says it only makes sense to use what is already there while providing safety as well.
