Driver killed, passenger makes it out of vehicle fire in Fulton County

SOUTH FULTON, Ga. (CBS46) -

One person is dead and another is hospitalized after a vehicle caught fire following a crash in south Fulton County early Thursday morning.

The crash happened at the intersection of Fairburn Road and Suttles Drive in the city of South Fulton.

According to police, the vehicle hit a tree and then caught fire. The driver was ejected from the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene while the passenger inside was able to make it out safely.

The passenger was taken to Grady Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Fairburn Road was shut down for several hours before reopening around 8:15 a.m.

No word on what caused the crash.
