It's an event that raises tens of thousands of dollars for America's heroes. But it also does more. It links the community with local veterans, all through lacrosse.

It's called Shootout for Soldiers. It happens every year in 12 cities across the U.S.

Graham Driscoll is a 7th grade lacrosse player for Pope High School's senior select team. This is his third year participating in the 24 hour lacrosse fundraiser at Kennesaw Mountain High School.

Right now, Driscoll's team is the organization's number 1 fundraising team in the nation.

"It's not just my team raised 12,000 it's about everyone else chipping in and overall creating a great amount of money for our veterans, " Graham Driscoll.

Brett Stevens served in the Marines. He brought Shootout for Soldiers to metro Atlanta three years ago. Over those three years, the event raised $90,000.

"We take the money we raised and we divide it amongst four national veteran charities and two local charities." Brett Stevens.

But both Driscoll and Stevens agree. The best part of the 24 hour non stop lacrosse games are meeting with veterans in the community.

"It's really nice just to learn their stories and each i might see 5 veterans. They might say oh i was in Vietnam but their stories vary very differently which makes them very unique in a way," said Driscoll.

The event begins Saturday at 7 p.m. at Kennesaw Mountain High School. All are welcome to attend the 24 hour event. For more information visit, click here
