RIVERDALE, GA (CBS46) -

Two kids have been arrested after the accidental shooting of a 12-year-old girl outside Atlanta.

Sakhya Bently was found Wednesday inside a home on Adel Lane in Riverdale. She was transported to a local area hospital where she later died as a result of her injuries.

Wednesday afternoon, Bently’s mother, Nyeisha Brown was surrounded by family and friends and could barely come to terms with the news that her little girl is gone.

“My daughter will never graduate high school, so this is the closest thing I have to a graduation picture,” Brown said, holding her daughter’s 6th-grade graduation picture.

Brown told CBS46 that she was just on FaceTime with her daughter about 15 minutes before she was killed. She says she told Bently not to hang with that group of teens. She says her daughter was a bubbly upcoming 7th grader at Sequoia Middle School, who aspired to be a lawyer.

“She was with friends,” Brown said. “Some had permission to be here, some did not. The ones that did not have permission where asked to leave and they returned,” she told CBS46.

Brown said one of the boys was playing with a gun, which shot and killed her child.

“I’m not mad at my daughter. I’m not even mad at the young man. I’m mad that these situations are taken so lightly,” Brown said. “We, and I’ll even include myself and other parents, we’re too lax. We’re too lax with these children,” she said.

She is not alone in her grief.

According to gunviolencearchive.org, there have been dozens of minors killed in accidental shootings across the state. In 2016, there were 17 minors killed in Georgia. In 2017, there were 14. So far this year, the site has tracked three accidental shooting deaths involving minors, not including Bently.

“Kids only know what they see and what they are taught,” Brown said. “It’s environmental and it’s taught. We as parents, we’ve got to do stuff differently.”

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses:

Two boys -- ages 13 and 14 -- have been charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless conduct, and being a minor in possession of a firearm. They have been taken to a juvenile detention center.

Both juveniles were taken to a youth detention center.
