Records obtained by the CBS46 Bulldog show that acting Lithonia Police Chief Pserda Dickerson was on probation with the State Police when he was hired by the Lithonia Police Department in 2015.
Dickerson was brought on as a peace officer, promoted to sergeant and then acting chief.
The state placed Dickerson on a three-year probation months after he was forced to resign from the nearby DeKalb County Police Department. The state says Dickerson was running a private security company on the side, a violation of department policy.
This comes after multiple reports by the Bulldog team, highlighting allegations of missing evidence at the Lithonia Police Department dating back years, and the firing of its most recent police chief, who was replaced by Dickerson.
Its unclear if Dickerson still operates the security company or if another family member does. We pulled state records that show the license is still active.
Chief Dickerson is on vacation and didn't respond to requests for comment through the city attorney. We have made previous attempts to talk to Dickerson about the department.
The city attorney was also unable to tell us if the city was aware Dickerson was on probation when hired and that he left DeKalb County after an internal investigation.
