Has it seemed to you like there's been a lot of rain in Atlanta lately?

As we get closer to the official start of Summer -- June 21 -- Atlanta has picked up just under 26 inches of rain for the year, which is nearly 4 inches above average!

After starting the year with a below-average January, Atlanta has seen above-average rainfall for each month since, with February and April picking up the most rain at more than 6 inches a piece!

Monthly Rain in Atlanta

  • Jan - 2.26 inches
  • Feb - 6.11 inches
  • Mar - 4.86 inches
  • Apr - 6.53 inches
  • May - 4.45 inches
  • June - 0.55 inches

A bulk of our rain in May was a result of tropical moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, in addition to Subtropical Storm Alberto. Meanwhile, our most recent rain is simply the result of a hot and humid airmass in north Georgia, a pattern that will continue in the near future.

The summer months in Atlanta are typically mixed with regard to rain: while June and August are typically two of our drier months, July is typically the wettest month of the entire year.
