ATLANTA (CBS46) -

Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms is joined by other city leaders for the "Transform Westside Summit" Friday morning detailing a plan to help revitalize the city's west side.

The mayor will be a keynote speaker at the summit, which began at 7 a.m. and she'll be joined by other city leaders who will discuss how to transform the area.

The summit is being put on by the Westside Future Fund, which is a non-profit dedicated to growing the area. This all began under former mayor Kasim Reed.

The Westside Future Fund has identified four areas in need of attention on the city's west side: safety and security, education, health and wellness and mixed-income communities.

Mayor Lance Bottoms will most likely address ways to preserve and advance many of the city's historic neighborhoods - including Vine City, English Avenue, and Ashview Heights.

CBS46 has long covered plans to revitalize the area and the work has already begun.

Workers with Westside Future Fund have cleaned up around many of the boarded-up houses and the city is cracking down on housing code violations. The mayor has said that redevelopment will not push out those who have stayed in the community for so long.

The event is free to the public but pre-registration has closed. If you're interested in attending, you'll have to register at the gathering spot at 384 Northyards Blvd. in Atlanta and if there's space, you'll be allowed in.
