COBB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

Georgia's new hands free law is set to take effect July 1 and local law enforcement is getting the word out, so you won't get a ticket.

Agencies like Cobb County police say they understand it will take some getting use to and they plans to give drivers a grace period between July 1 and August 1.

"Officers will still be pulling people over for violations of the new Georgia hands free law but we will be issuing ether a written warning or either a verbal warning there will be no fees no fine just a piece of paper to remind you to get that cell phone out of our hand," said Sarah O'Hara with the Cobb County Police Department.

The hands-free ticket will vary in price. It will start at $50 and increase to $100, and then to $150 after repeat violations.
