Couple defends themselves against armed attackers at Kroger

DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

A man and woman were targeted by a group of armed strangers while shopping at the Kroger on Wesley Chapel Road near I-20.

DeKalb County Police say the couple was followed around the store, and when they left towards their car in the parking lot, that's when a Wild West style shootout began.

A total of at least four people were all firing at the same time. Witnesses say there were too many gunshots to count.

The man who was being followed was also armed, and he shot at the group of men who were stalking him, hitting three.  Police say the targeted man and woman were not hit by any bullets fired by their attackers.

Police at the scene of the crime did not have any more details about why the couple were being followed.

The suspects, Andrew Banks, 23, and Austin Harris, 18, are both charged with two counts of aggravated assault and theft by taking.

Everyone who was shot is expected to survive.
