Two children killed at South Creek Mud Boggin'

MILLEDGEVILLE, GA (CBS46) -

A driver competing in the South Creek Mud Boggin' on Saturday may be facing charges after losing control of his vehicle and killing two children.

Georgia State Patrol say the driver was preparing to exit the mud pit when he vehicle had a mechanical failure and was unable to stop.

The driver lost control of his 1988 Chevrolet S10 as it traveled through a cabled area and struck a 10, 11 and 15-year-old.

The 11-year-old was airlifted to a medical facility in Jacksonville.

The other two children were pronounced dead at the scene.

The following message was posted on the South Creek Mud Boggin' Facebook page:

Our Mud Boggin' family is heartbroken. There are no words that can ever be said to even begin to express our sorrow. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families involved. There has been an outpouring of prayers. We ask that you continue to lift the families up in prayer-and-parents, please hold your children a little closer tonight than you ever have before.

The Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is conducting an investigation and charges are pending.
