Dewey Grantham Jr. runs Liberty Tire Recycling in Atlanta and said he's already received about 4,000 tires from an illegal dump site off George Luther Drive in DeKalb County.

"I'm very pleased that the problem is being resolved and we're getting those tires recycled because tires create problems with mosquito breeding," said Grantham.

Last month, the Georgia Environmental Protection Division hired a contractor, W.E.T.T. Services, to remove them from the property which was once occupies by the State Department of Transportation.

"It's very good to see the state of Georgia working to get these tires cleaned up and spending the money to get these tires cleaned up because that's what truly makes a difference."

Significant progress has been made to properly dispose of the tires, but there is more work to be done.

"So once we finish processing the tire we create a product that's a two-inch minus rubber chip and we sell that to paper mills and power plants."

The recycler and contractors still have work to do to finish off the massive load.

There were some issues with the volume of tires being dropped off at the recycling facility and the contractor is looking at scheduling drop off times with smaller loads. If the issues are resolved in the next few days, the job should be complete by the end of July.

"We make sure that we don't accept more than we can process in a single day so that's the only issue that may hold up someone."
