WOODSTOCK, GA (CBS46) -

Eight weeks after CBS46 first exposed a cell phone repair company operating illegally, police arrested the owner.

It was our reporting on the former Elite Techs in Woodstock, and customer claims of being ripped off, that prompted police to investigate and ultimately arrest the owner, James White.

White has been arrested and charged with racketeering, theft by taking and deposit account fraud.

Ashley Stinson was the first person to complain after she dropped her cell phone off for repairs and realized it had been gutted.

"The camera was taken out of the phone, the FaceTime camera, the receiver, the battery was disconnected," said Stinson.

One by one, other customers came forward, claiming they too had been ripped off.

"I had a chance to go to the back and look, and he didn't give it to me," said customer Todd Downes. "He said it wasn't ready yet."

As it turns out, CBS46's investigation into the company was on point and promoted police to make an arrest.

"Hopefully, at some point, I'd like to get something out of this, or at least keep it from happening to somebody else," said Stinson.

It looks like that's going to happen. Police say that any customers who have property they couldn't retrieve from Elite Techs should call the Woodstock or Kennesaw police departments, depending on the store location you shopped at.

They want to get those items back to you.

  • If you're in Woodstock, call (770) 592-6000 (Ext. 1127)
  • If you're in Kennesaw, call (770) 422-2505 or email Lt. Graydon at cgraydon@kennesaw-ga.gov

Police say they have to rent a storage unit because there was so much stuff retrieved from the business that belonged to customers.
