MCDONOUGH, GA (CBS46) -

Parents in Henry County are fighting to get a blighted property torn down.

Neighbors in McDonough say an abandoned building is creating concern for their children. They say it's on a busy street about a quarter of a mile away from McDonough Town Square.

CBS46 reporter Kai Beech spoke to the property owner and he tells us the property used to be a restaurant, but it's been abandoned for about 10 years. And now, some neighbors are fighting to have it torn down.

Shiloh Baptist Church shares the same street as the abandoned building. The pastor says the property might need to be inspected.

"If there's someone in the community that has some evidence of how its being used and causing a greater danger than I'm aware of than we have to take the appropriate steps," said Pastor Edward W. Lee of Shiloh Baptist Church.

The property owner tells us he plans on putting the door back within a few days.
