LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) – The Lee County coroner has confirmed a double fatality accident on Monday just before 6 a.m.

The traffic accident happened on I-85 Northbound near exit 50. between.

A 2013 Ford Fiesta struck a 2018 Chevrolet 2500 pick-up truck in the rear while traveling in the northbound lane on I-85.

According to police, the Ford Fiesta, occupied with four individuals from Duluth, Georgia, swerved off the roadway after the collision and struck a tree.

The driver, 27-year-old Thaddeus Freddie Bowman and front seat passenger,  26-year-old Terraneka Shavon Harris, sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead on the scene by Lee County Coroner Bill Harris.

One of the back seat passengers, a 24-year-old man, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center and released.

The other back seat passenger, a 17-year-old male, was ejected from the vehicle.  He was taken by ambulance to East Alabama Medica Center and then transferred to an Atlanta hospital after it was determined he suffered from a cervical fracture. Both males are related to Harris.

The driver of the Chevrolet truck, a 52-year-old man from Tallassee, was not injured and released.

According to the Lee County Coroner's Office, the cause of the accident may have been due to fatigue.

This accident is currently under investigation by Auburn police and the Lee County Coroner's Office.
