Teens allegedly locked in basement, suspects now facing assault charges police say

DECATUR, GA (CBS46) -

A Stone Mountain couple was arrested Wednesday for allegedly locking two teens in the basement of their home and subjecting them to abuse.

DeKalb County Sheriff's Office say 38-year-old Tamara McGowan and 42-year-old Thomas Young locked the teens in their home on North Hairston Road between June 1, 2017 and April 30, 2018.

They were found sleeping in a vehicle in a Walmart parking lot near Stone Mountain and taken into custody by DeKalb County Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Unit.

Deputies allege the teens were only fed once each day, were exposed to drug use, sexual activity and at times attempts were made to coerce them to participate.

Both suspects are charged with cruelty to child-first degree deprive, cruelty to child-first degree pain, criminal attempt sodomy, cruelty to child second degree and simple assault fear.
