MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) -

A Cobb County Police officer was hospitalized with serious injuries to his leg after he tried to chase down suspects stealing a motorcycle from a motel.

The incident happened around 5 p.m. on Monday outside the Extended Stay Deluxe on Interstate North Parkway near the Marietta Diner.

According to police, three suspects loaded the motorcycle onto a trailer and officers were able to catch up with them due to a GPS device installed on the bike. The suspects took off on foot and as one of the officers was chasing a suspect across Cobb Parkway, he was struck by a passing motorist.

The officer, later identified as C.L. McTier, was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.

Two of the three suspects were apprehended but one remains on the loose. The suspects in custody have been identified as 44 year-old Gary Wayne Haney and 22 year-old Christian Lee Scott.

Both have been charged with theft by taking, obstruction of law enforcement, false name and date of birth, pedestrian crossing at other than crosswalks, suspended license, possession of burglary tools and possession of drugs charges.
