Brookhaven Police are investigating a shooting that killed one person and injured two others outside a bar and restaurant.

Shots were fired around 2 a.m. Sunday outside the Acapulco Restaurant in the 3300 block of Buford Highway.

Police tell CBS46 the shooter or shooters pulled up next to a taxi with 21 year-old Kevin Carranza Acosta and two others riding in the back. Someone in the car displayed a gun and the taxi drive took off. That's when shots were fired from the other car.

Acosta was struck and killed.

The driver of the taxi, identified as 42 year-old Javier Lira, was shot in the shoulder and is home recovering.

Police said the shooter continued to open fire. A third victim, 45 year-old Paula Gaitan Romero, who was in a nearby SUV was shot in the arm.

At least a dozen shots were fired.

Police said witnesses are key in the investigation. They would like to speak with anyone who was in the area at the time and saw something.

"We’re hoping that someone out there saw something else that we still don’t know and that’ll give us a chance to break this case," said Officer Carlos Nino.

Anyone with information is encouraged to submit tips anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
