Toss your old electronics and paper at Rockdale County event

Citizens in Rockdale County looking to get rid of electronics and paper items that are no longer useful can do so at a community recycling and shredding event.

Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful is hosting Electronics Recycling and Paper Shredding on September 8 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is the second time the free half-day event has been held this year.

Electronic items do not have to function in order to be disposed of, however, there is a maximum of four banker boxes per vehicle allowed for paper shredding.

Participants must provide photo ID as proof of an address in the County.

A $20 cash fee will be applied for each TV and $10 each for CRT monitors. All other electronics and paper items are free to recycle.

Accepted electronics recycling

  • Desktops, laptops/tablets, keyboard/mouse
  • Servers, gaming consoles, gaming controls, Blu-ray/DVD/CD players
  • Mainframes, cable/wires, check processors
  • Network hubs, network switches, dock stations
  • Cell phones, desktop phones and systems
  • CD-ROMS, floppy disks, hard drives
  • Circuit boards, LCD monitors
  • Power supplies, toner/inkjet cartridges 
  • UPS and UPS batteries, Ni-MH/Ni-CAD batteries, lithium batteries
  • Printers, fax machines, copiers, scanners, typewriters, VCR, stereos

Electronic items NOT accepted 

  • Projection/console TV's
  • Washer/dryers, vacuum cleaners, speakers, battery-powered tools
  • Gas grill tanks, liquid-containing devices, alkaline batteries
  • Toaster ovens, dehumidifiers, gas-powered tools
  • Microwave ovens, radioactive material, humidifiers, coffee makers, freezers, blenders
  • Mixers, ovens, hair dryers, ceiling fans, refrigerators

Paper items NOT accepted

  • Papers containing foreign objects such as spring loader/binder clips or glue/adhesives
  • Photographs
  • Hanging metal file folders
  • Three-ring binders

The event will be held at Rockdale County Government Annex located at 1400 Parker Road in Conyers.
