DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA (CBS46) -

As students go back to class in Douglas County, they'll have the chance to participate in a unique program that offers meals not only before school but after as well.

The district says they see so many hungry children across the county and they've launched a free program that provides nourishing meals both before and after class which even includes dinner.

Chef Clarence Martin is the chef designing the meals. CBS46 was told nearly 63-percent of the students in the district need free meals.

This summer, while preparing summer meals for students, Martin was also building a dinner menu -- which is part of the district's first ever supper program.

The nutrition team realized summer meals just weren't enough and so starting this fall, kids can get a free dinner but the child must be enrolled in a sport
or after school activity.

The school says it's needed to make sure kids are eating.
