ATLANTA (CBS46) -

A major metro Atlanta restaurant chain failed to make the grade this week when the health inspector showed up. The popular restaurant received a score in the 50's on a surprise inspection.

The manager at Chili's in Lawrenceville did not want to talk about the failing health inspection and told us to contact corporate.

"You're going to have to call the media hotline, and it has been corrected, yes," said manager Nicole in response to my question as to whether or not the problems were corrected.

The Gwinnett County restaurant on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road scored a 59 and a U for unsatisfactory on its last surprise inspection. The report says chicken, shrimp and corn were at unsafe temperatures. Plus, there was a black mold-like substance in the ice machine and there was food debris on several dishes stored as clean.

"Were you serving food on dirty dishes?" I asked.

"No sir," the manager responded.

Chili's corporate told us they were disappointed with the inspection and have thoroughly addressed all concerns, except for the fact that they posted the wrong inspection score.

"So why do you not have the current inspection posted?" I asked.

"I just got back from the health department this morning," the manager responded.

Here's a complete statement from Chili's:

“We were disappointed with the grade we received from our recent health inspection on August 7. However, we took quick, corrective action and partnered with the health department to thoroughly address all concerns. We took this incident seriously because the health and safety of our Guests and Team Members is a top priority. We maintain strict standards of quality, safety and cleanliness in our restaurants and we have a robust food safety program in place to ensure we meet both our strict standards and regulatory requirements.”

Other scores

  • Hotlanta Wings on Highway 85 in Riverdale scored a 91.
  • Bonefish Grill on Cobb Parkway in Atlanta scored a 96.
  • Raging Burrito on Sycamore Street in Decatur scored a 99.

Golden Spatula Award

We were inside an old firehouse on Marietta Street in Atlanta -- Fire Station 16. It's more than 100-years-old and it has been turned into the awesome, Texas-style BBQ restaurant called 4 Rivers Smokehouse.

It smells so good when you walk in, all those BBQ smells. Plus, they've done a great job preserving this old firehouse. In fact, the old fire pole is in here and if you go upstairs, it goes right through one of the tables you can sit at.

They scored a perfect 100 -- in-fact, three in a row!

Congratulations, as they are the winner of the Golden Spatula Award. And when you come in the old firehouse that was built in 1915, they really celebrate the history here and they're celebrating the 'cue.

You can order the half a bird. They also have the brisket, which was smoked in hickory for 18 hours. Also, they have the smoked turkey and they have sausage on the menu. Some of the sides include macaroni and cheese, baked beans and coleslaw, and I love the look of the ribs! You can get the signature sauce on them too.

I tried one of the ribs, and it was delicious and tender!

Boy, that's good!
