Learn About The StormTracker 46 Chase Van!
The StormTracker 46 Weather Storm Chase Van is the latest piece of technology added to our weather center. It's designed to show you and your family exactly what Mother Nature is doing.Whether it's a severe thunderstorm or impending winter storm, the storm chase van can intercept any weather event and send critical weather data back to the station meteorologist. The van uses the latest in wireless communications, global positioning guidance, and satellite XM technologies to turn this 2005 Town & Country Van into a mobile weather platform. The van comes equipped with a weather sensor array that takes temperature, wind speed, relative humidity, barometric pressure and rainfall amounts. That data is then sent via the internet back to CBS 46 and instantly displayed on our StormTracker weather radar computer. Our exact location is also transmitted to the station.
The van comes with a computer work station that provides the field meteorologist with all available weather data at their finger tips. Thanks to a XM Satellite uplink live radar and satellite data is provided. All National Weather Service data is also available. In the near future, we plan to add a live video capability that will allow the meteorologist to show our viewers exactly what the weather conditions are doing without speculation.
