ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) - Scattered showers and thunderstorms are - slowly - moving through Metro Atlanta. Areas of heavy rain and frequent lightning will persists through 11 p.m. Stormy weather gradually gives way to drier conditions after midnight.

While drier overall after midnight, a couple showers may persist into Sunday morning; especially north and west of Metro Atlanta. Temperatures bottom-out in the upper 60s and lower 70s early Sunday outside Atlanta. Temperatures are forecast to dip into the low and mid-70s inside Atlanta early Sunday.

There will be clouds around Sunday, but don’t count on much of a cooling trend. Temperatures peak in the upper 80s and lower 90s Sunday afternoon.

Showers and thunderstorms increase through the afternoon hours. A couple storms may become strong and produce gustier winds along with the heavy rain and lightning. There will still be plenty of dry time for outdoor plans. But, remain aware that the chance of rain increases in the afternoon.

Looking ahead to next week...

The new workweek brings more of the same; heat, humidity and a daily chance of scattered rain. However, a front enters the picture Wednesday into Thursday. The chance of rain may get a boost as we head later in the week.

Have a great rest of your weekend,
