A three-story apartment building went up in flames Saturday morning which left five families uninjured but displaced.

Around 6:51 a.m. flames broke out at the Villas De La Vista Apartments in the 900 block of Sparrows Lane NW.

The building has 20 units but only five were affected by the flames and heave smoke. In total eight children and eight adults were displaced.

Of the five units impacted by the fire, only two sustained heavy smoke, fire and water damage. The other three units sustained moderate to minor damages.

Fire investigators say the blaze started in the wall space between adjacent laundry rooms on the second floor.

A cause has not yet been determined.
