Arrest made in fatal bus stop shooting

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Fugitive Squad arrested a man they said shot and killed Marcaysia Dawkins at a MARTA bus stop in Lithonia.

Dawkins, 19, was waiting for the bus to go reload her MARTA card for the upcoming work week when she was shot and killed. Dawkins is seen on surveillance video from a nearby gas station fighting back after the man who was arrested tried to steal her purse.

The gunman opened fire then took off running.

Dawkins was shot on Sunday around 10 a.m. and later died at the hospital.

"No, he did kill my daughter he confessed. I am alittle bit relieved, a little bit," Charisma Dawkins said. "It was just necessary. I needed to hear he was incustody and justice will be served for him."

"I heard two shots, and I just ran to the window to check to see what was happening outside," said Faiz Lakhani, who works at the Marathon gas station.

Police said they are not releasing the name of the suspect because it is an ongoing investigation. But, said he was the only person involved.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

More information will be made available in a news conference Monday, Dec. 1, 2014 at a time and location to be announced.
