Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms confirmed a major shake-up in her cabinet with a lot of big players out and the announcement of national searches underway for several positions.
On April 9, Bottoms asked every member of her cabinet for their resignations, and on Friday she accepted some of them.
"I am excited about the successes that lie ahead, and appreciate the service of these individuals to the City," said Bottoms in a press release to CBS46. "I look forward to working with my new team to build an Atlanta that works for everyone.”
Bottoms promised change and continues to deliver. Friday’s announcement marks the transition of nearly 20 cabinet members.
Seven cabinet members will soon no longer have jobs with the city, including: Jim Beard, Chief Financial Officer Jeremy Berry, City Attorney Catherine Buell, President and CEO of Atlanta Housing Authority Faye DiMassimo, Renew Atlanta General Manager Amy Phuong, Commissioner of Parks and Recreation Stephanie Stuckey, Chief Resilience Officer Anne Torres, Communications DirectorAccording to the mayor, they are being transitioned out.
Five more people are in interim positions with the city and may or may not keep their jobs after a nationwide search. That includes the city's aviation general manager; fire chief; chief procurement officer; commissioner of human resources; and chief information officer.
Two other cabinet members, the city's senior policy advisor and chief service officer, will transition into different roles with the city.
Perhaps the biggest surprise at City Hall is the city attorney being out. He took to Twitter to say, "it has been a true honor and pleasure serving the city... It is customary for a mayor to build her own senior team."
We went to City Hall Friday looking for answers about these changes and to find out if more are coming, but no one wanted to comment on camera. But the mayor did say in a statement, "in the weeks ahead, I will finalize new roles under a refreshed organizational chart....I look forward to working with my new team."
