Nathan Deal and Brian Kemp

ATLANTA (CBS46) - Brian Kemp has announced his resignation as Secretary of State after declaring victory in Georgia's gubernatorial race.

Kemp made the announcement Thursday morning during a joint press conference with current Governor Nathan Deal.

Governor Deal has named Robyn Crittenden as interim Secretary of State.

Meanwhile, Democrat Stacey Abrams has yet to concede the race.

In a media call Wednesday night, Abrams’ campaign manager told CBS46 that staffers believe there are still enough absentee and provisional votes still to be counted in Democratic strongholds that could get Abrams to a runoff or at least a recount.

The Abrams campaign also announced Wednesday the launch of a "provisional ballot chase program." They’re buying advertising time on African-American and Latino radio stations to get voters to call the Democratic Party of Georgia's voter protection hotline.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Abrams' campaign said that 20,000 votes are at issue, adding that the campaign will litigate until every vote has been counted.
