A celebration of life and funeral service will be held this weekend for a well known and beloved metro Atlanta high school football coach who passed away on June 24.
James "Friday" Richards died at his home in Marietta. He was 64.
Richards was the head football coach at Marietta High School from 1995 to 2009 with an overall record of 107-58, leading the Blue Devils to 10 playoff appearances and four regional titles.
He was a graduate of the school before going on to play at the University of Florida.
Most recently, Richards helped coach varsity football and track and field at Whitefield Academy in Smyrna.
"Coach Friday has been a pillar in this community to say the least," said MCS Director of Athletics, Paul Hall in a press release. "He will be greatly missed. Please keep the Richards family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."
