A month long investigation resulted in Banks County's largest drug bust and the arrest of two suspects.

The Special Operations Unit arrested Juan Carlos Melchor-Valencia and Fernando Garcia Mendez for multiple drug trafficking charges.

Twenty-year-old Valencia is facing charges for trafficking cocaine, methamphetamine and possession of marijuana. Mendez, 22, is facing charges for trafficking cocaine and methamphetamine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by receiving stolen property, obstruction of law enforcement officer, possession of marijuana and driving without a valid license.

ICE has also been contacted and a detainer was placed on Mendez.

Deputies seized 52.2 pounds of methamphetamine with a street value of $2.6 million, 6.9 pounds of cocaine with a street value, more than $22,000 in cash and ten guns.

"We are accustomed to large quantities of drugs passing through our jurisdiction by way of the interstate," said Sheriff Carlton Speed in a press release. "However, this is a unique case because the Cartel essentially set up shop in Banks County."
