Marquise Collins

Douglas County, GA (CBS46) For 24 years the Wendy's High School Heisman program has awarded student-athletes with scholarships ranging from $500-5,000. This year's male student-athlete for the state of Georgia is Marquise Collins from Douglas County High.

Collins, who is a valued member of the track, basketball and football teams, was selected from a group of 40,000 students.

" Marquise is a student in one of the most rigorous high school academic programs in the world," said DCHS Principal Andre Weaver. "Marquise's teachers have challenged him throughout his high school career to do his best and leave a lasting legacy on the world," added Weaver.

Collins has a 3.7 GPA,is enrolled in International Baccalaurete (IB) courses and is involved in several community volunteer programs.

The scholar-athlete doesn't just lead his teammates on the field, but he also encourages classmates to join him in volunteer activities. 

"He is a great role model for our younger students to follow and his peers as well. At DCHS, [we] are very proud of the work he has done as a DCHS student-athlete," said Weaver.

Upon graduation, Collins plans to continue his path of student-athlete success at Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina. He also hopes to one day become President of the United States.
