Family speaks after teen is killed at pool party

A 19-year-old man was killed after being shot in the chest during a house party in Fayette County Saturday night.

“We're up and down. Our spirits are up and down,” said Wali Clanton Sr, father of Wali Clanton Jr.

The incident took place around 11:50 p.m. at a home on the 600 block of Highway 279 in north Fayette County.

When officers arrived, they found five people had been shot. The home was hosting a large pool party that had been advertised on social media.

All five victims were transported to an area hospital, four of which were treated for non life-threatening injuries.

Clanton Jr. of Stockbridge was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Clanton graduated high school in 2014.

"I just want to know why," said Marqus Woods, who was one of hundreds of young people who attended the party. "I just went on Twitter and saw his graduation photo. He probably just graduated."

It is unclear what prompted the shootings. One party-goer told CBS46 that the party ended before midnight when one girl's father began loudly accusing another person of putting drugs into his daughter's drink. The father threatened to call 911. Witnesses said the shooting happened shortly after the incident.

“We're not going to let this just be swept under a rug. This will not be a statistic,” said Rene Panco, the victim's aunt.

Police are actively searching for suspects. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the Fayette County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division at 770-716-4715.
