Accident or crime scene cordon tape

ATHENS-CLARKE COUNTY, Ga. (CBS46) -- Shortly after 5 p.m., Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a domestic violence call on Baxter Drive.

When officers arrived, they were confronted by a male from North Carolina who was armed with a machete. The male ignored commands from the officer to drop the machete and attacked one of the officers. The officer fired at the subject, striking him in the torso.

ACCPD provided first aid until EMS arrived to transport him to a local hospital. The man is currently listed in serious condition. The officer involved in the shooting was Roger Williams. 

Williams was not injured during the shooting; however, he has been placed on administrative leave with pay in accordance with department policy.

Also, ACCPD contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation who has agreed to handle the investigation.
