DeKalb Police have two suspects in custody in connection with a shootout that killed an innocent bystander.

Danyale Harris says the victim, known as Coolie, was her friend.

"I just broke down," Harris said. "I saw him this morning. I see him every day and it's messed up. My kids come out here. My kids have to be raised out here. I have teenagers. This is scary for any kid out here. It's not safe anymore," she went on.

Police say two men were shooting at each other across the street at the intersection of North Hairston Road and Central Drive in Stone Mountain around 1:18pm Wednesday. Police roped off three different blocks of the intersection as they investigated.

People who live and work in the area say the shootings aren't new.

"We had a shooting before," said former barbershop owner Harrison Starks. "There was one at the church that used to be here where they shot on my property. I ended up shooting guys working that tried to break into my barbershop," he explained.

Several bystanders told CBS46 they hear gunshots often near the gas stations and the apartments nearby.

"It needs more security in this area," Starks said. "It needs more police presence, and not just passing by or saying hello. I mean really, they need to put a police precinct over here."

DeKalb Police have not released the suspects' names.
