Lenox Square Mall

ATLANTA (CBS46) — A popular Buckhead shopping mall is making some changes to enhance its safety plan. Lenox Square will soon implement a youth supervision program to deter disruptive activity.

Starting on Sept. 21, Lenox Square says all visitors under 18 must be accompanied at all times by a parent or adult, age 21 or older, after 3 p.m. every day.

Lenox Square to implement new policy for visitors under the age of 18

"Lenox Square is committed to providing a pleasant and family friendly shopping environment for all guests. The program is in response to feedback from the community and community leaders, as the center reinforces its commitment to the community to provide a pleasant, family friendly shopping environment. We are establishing a Youth Supervision Policy as an enhancement to our existing safety plan and to deter activity that is disruptive to our community," says a spokesperson with the mall.

Elaine Sterling, owner of the Elaine Sterling Institute inside of the mall, says that the last several months of crime at Lenox Square have been daunting for her and her coworkers.

She says she was excited to learn about the new policy.

The new policy was announced after a string of violent acts and crime at the shopping destination, including the shooting of a security guard by two 15-year-olds in June.

The Atlanta Police Department released the following statement regarding the mall's new policy:

"The Atlanta Police Department supports Lenox Square’s new Youth Supervision Program and we continue to support their efforts to increase public safety and security at their property."
