ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46)- Atlanta's beloved Nutcracker is cracked, and gone.

The nut of every Ballet company's finances is the Christmas classic The Nutcracker.

Atlanta Ballet's version of this tale fills the Fox Theater every winter, and fills the company's coffers to pay for more contemporary dance performances the rest of the year.

But suddenly, after 21 years of performing, the familiar Sugar Plum Fairy is no more. The Rat King we knew is gone. What about the Dew Drop Fairy?

A New Nutcracker begins next week.

Why change?

The new artistic director gives us an exclusive interview and peek at the new production.

Will it possibly compete with 21 years of adoration?

Why do we need another Nutcracker. Perhaps that will lead to a talk about the role of this particular ballet in the broader world of modern dance.
