Man arrested after possible remains of ex-wife found on his property

A Gilmer County man is in police custody after remains believed to be of his ex-wife were found on his property on Wednesday.

Charles Michael Patrick, 72, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder in the death of 68-year-old Drusilla Patrick.

Charles Patrick, already on probation for a previous offense, re-married unexpectedly, which gained the attention of his probation officer. The probation officer became concerned about the whereabouts of Drusilla Patrick and an investigation began.

During the investigation, Charles Patrick made conflicting statements regarding her whereabouts. The investigation further revealed that the Patricks weren't even married, having divorced in 1970.

GBI agents also interviewed other people and determined that Drusilla Patrick was last seen alive between December of 2016 and January of 2017.

After obtaining a search warrant, agents went to Charles Patrick's home on Ridgemont Drive in Ellijay on Wednesday. After searching, human remains believed to be that of Drusilla Patrick were found on the property on Thursday.

Patrick was arrested and taken to the Gilmer County Detention Center, where he was found dead in his isolation cell a day later.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the positive identity of the remains as well as the cause of death.
