Man arrested, charged in stabbing that led officer to kill dog, shoot owner

A man accused of stabbing a woman in DeKalb County in an incident that led to a police officer shooting another man and his dog has been arrested and charged.

Terrance Hilyard, 47, has been charged with one count of aggravated assault for the stabbing of a woman on Dec. 29.

On that night, a police officer responded to a domestic violence call at the Marquis Forest Apartments in the 100 block of Pine Tree Circle. He was told a woman was being stabbed.

When the officer arrived on the scene, a large dog lunged at the officer, which forced the officer to shoot and kill the dog.

Hilyard had apparently fled the scene, but another man -- later identified as 44-year-old Kevin Davis -- was at the apartment with a gun.

After the officer repeatedly asked Davis to drop the gun and he didn't comply, the officer shot Davis twice in the abdomen.

Davis and the woman who was stabbed were both taken to the hospital.

Hilyard accused of stabbing the woman later returned to the apartment and was apprehended.
