Officials say a man in his 70s was killed in a house fire in Gwinnett County early Sunday.

The fire occurred just after 11 a.m. in the 80 block of Bleeker Street, SW.

The fire was reported by a neighbor who heard what sounded like an explosion and saw flames.

When crews arrived to put out the fire, they found the body of the man inside, along with two dogs. One dog was dead, while the other survived.

The man's wife was unaccounted for, but was eventually found safe, according to a spokesperson with the Gwinnett County Fire Department, who added that the woman was away visiting her daughter.

Officials say they're investigating the exact cause of the fire, but said an explosion may have been attributed to medical oxygen tanks and ammunition found in a burned area of the home.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
