Marvel, Disney add pressure for Governor Deal to veto Religious Freedom Bill

There is growing pressure for Governor Deal to veto the Religious Freedom Bill that now sits on his desk.

The sponsor of the bill, Senator Josh McKoon, met with a number of Black pastors to answer any questions they have about the bill.

"We just want to make sure we have information as we speak to our congregations that we can share with them an informed decision rather than just an emotional decision," organizer of the event Bishop Jerry Hutchins said.

After hearing from Senator Mckoon some pastors got the answers they needed while some did not.

"If it was just the pastors protection piece all in favor of it," Hutchins said. "I don't want any pastor or church to be forced to do anything that violates their values, their beliefs etc., but at the same time I don't want others to be discriminated against."

Civil rights activist Pastor Markel Hutchins still has issues with the bill.

"This a partisan measure it's all about politics," Markel Hutchins said. "It has very little to do with God and we've got to stand and help the public understand what's really at stake here."

Marvel to boycott Georgia if Governor Deal signs Religious Freedom bill

Pinewood Atlanta Studios

in Fayetteville has been home to Marvel films, but the Religious Freedom Bill could change that if signed.

CBS46 got this statement from a Disney Spokesman. “Disney and Marvel are inclusive companies, and although we have had great experiences filming in Georgia, we will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law."

Senator Josh McKoon fire back at the studios questioning why they do business elsewhere.

"They need to explain to the American people and to the people of this state why it is that they are doing business in the people's Republic of China, one of the most oppressive regimes on the face of the earth," Mckoon said. "Yet they have a problem with a modest bill that's protects religious freedom for all people."

Ant-Man, Captain America: Civil War, and Guardians of the Galaxy have all shot at the Pinewood Atlanta Studios.
