Mom charged in fatal house fire: I would never hurt my kids

She's accused of leaving her children home alone to die in a fire.

For the first time, that mother talked to CBS46.

On Saturday, Rockell Coleman will lay to rest her three young boys. She is charged with murder. Coleman tells CBS46, she wishes she could take her children's place and she would never do anything to hurt them.

"It tears my heart out, it's hurtful," said Rockell Coleman as she struggled to hold back her tears. Coleman is getting ready to do what no parent should ever have to. Lay her own children to rest.

"I wish I could take their place right now," said Coleman.

Her three sons died in a house fire on Misty Valley Road in Decatur earlier in December.

On Friday night, friends and family stopped by the Murray and Son Funeral Home in Southwest Atlanta to say goodbye.

"I feel like I'm still in a dream," said Coleman. "I can't wake up out of a nightmare."

Police said Coleman left her five children at home by themselves.

Two of her boys, ages 3 and 4, died at the scene. Her 10-year-old died at the hospital. Her two other children survived and are in state custody.

Coleman is charged with murder.

"I just want everyone to know I would never hurt my kids," said Coleman. "I would never leave them home alone. I love them dearly."

Coleman was released on bond earlier this week.

The mother insists a babysitter named Tanisha Sims was supposed to have been watching the children.

Police say they have not found Sims.

"I just want Tanisha to come forward," Coleman said.

Now the mother is left to suffer unimaginable pain.

"Unconditionally. I can't explain how much I love my babies. That's all I had," said Coleman.

The funeral for the three young children is Saturday morning in Jonesboro.
