New facility serves abuse victims in metro Atlanta

The first center to serve all abuse victims in Metro Atlanta opened its doors Thursday.

Seeking help at The Family Protection Center means those suffering from sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse or human sex trafficking will have access to a host of resources under one roof.

"Often times these victims, they quit and they give up," said DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James. "Even the ones that stay the journey end up being victimized by the process."

The 8,000 square foot facility is fit for adults and children. The wing specializing in services for anyone ages three to eighteen, features three interview rooms that are sound proof with blacked out windows and two surveillance cameras.

"I think it takes a lot of courage and bravery to come forward and tell your story, especially for a child, but then to have the parent supported by other services...," said therapist Laraine Fraijo.

There's also a medical exam room where victims of sexual abuse can get tested.
